Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route: Day 5

Previous entry.

The Barranco Wall: a massive cliff that stood on our path to the summit. That was our main challenge today.

Scrambling up the cliff took a couple of hours, both due to the sheer number of people climbing and the altitude contributing to the difficulty. The views on the way up were quite spectacular, although we entered a cloud at the top.

Said cloud caused minor issues with the trek but did limit visibility to the immediate area. This added a bit of mysteriousness but also obscured what appeared to be quite interesting formations: many large rocks balanced in precarious locations, seemingly needing only minor assistance to cause serious rockfalls.

After climbing (and sometimes sliding) through the mist up and down hills covered in loose dirt, we arrived at the Karanga Camp (3,995 meters, 13,106 feet). Only one more camp before the big push to the summit!
